Description

3MT @UVA

Whether you're networking, interviewing for a job, or just having a conversation at a party, it is essential to have an "elevator pitch" to describe your dissertation work. Three Minute Thesis (3MT) is an event that helps graduate students develop the necessary communication skills to effectively explain their research and scholarship in a clear and succinct way so that all people, from field-specialist to the lay-person, can understand the topic and importance of their work. Plus, it comes with the opportunity to win prizes of up to $1,000! Click here for more information about 3MT at UVA.

By submitting your entry into the competition, you are entering the first round of judged heats to take place February 8-10th, 2017. Finalists will be selected from the first-round heats to participate in the UVa 3MT Live Final on Wednesday, March 1st at 3:00 pm.

When registering, please select the date and time you are available to attend a preliminary heat. Each participant will participate in only one of the preliminary heats.

UVA doctoral students from all schools and departments who have passed their qualifying exams are eligible to enter the 3MT.

Looking for training or practice opportunities before the preliminary heats? We've got a short series of workshops to help you learn how to communicate your research, as well as a practice session just for 3MT talks!
